GLIDING OVER THE BUMPS AT SEBRING

The first thing you’ve got to start with is the actual track itself, it was really unique and it's quite cool to come to America and race on two completely different tracks, with characteristics that you won't see in any other area of the world.

Daytona’s defining feature was its banking, but here at Sebring the track is a completely new challenge because of the bumps and the line around here. It's more avoiding the bumps and finding the best way around the corners to keep the car as settled as possible, which then makes us quicker. This means the turns aren’t necessarily about finding an apex, like on turn 17 and turn 1 which have huge bumps and makes it really interesting. But that seems like it’s quite a good summary of what American racing is really like.

It’s an interesting change from my ‘traditional’ racing, especially when you look round the circuit and there are concrete barriers instead of tyre walls. It makes you think of what racing probably used to be like years ago, so it feels kind of like a blast from the past, which is nice for a young driver, having grown up in the era where everything's kind of moulded for driving, like Paul Ricard’s huge run-ups.

In terms of this week’s test, it went really well. The Ligier has been responding much better than what we saw at Daytona, and reacting better to the changes we’ve made. We’ve been quick throughout the whole weekend, and have hardly made any changes that didn’t have a positive outcome, so our choice of direction has been perfect from start to finish.

Obviously it's quite hard to compete against the DPI’s, because of the different torque they put out due to having different engines in each car, but hopefully, we will sort the balance out in time for the race. I think we stand a pretty good chance because the car is performing really well, so although we may not have the best power, our actual car setup is spot on. The team has done a great job the entire two days.
